News Update and New Paintings

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

This Winter, I have been away from home a lot, which means that I was not able to spend much time in my studio. A project involving icons evolved slowly and here are four paintings I feel like showing at this point. They are smaller than my usual paintings, acrylic on gessoed board (very portable + they fit into my suitcase!) and are going to be part of an upcoming exhibition at the Mark Gruber Gallery in New Paltz, NY (www.markgrubergallery.com).One of them is also going to be shown at the Hughes Gallery in Boca Grande, FL in April (www.hughesgallery.net)
Travelling with my computer inspired me to compile a book of images from this blog. From June 10 , 2005 to June 9, 2006 I published one painting or drawing a day of pears whose “personalities” or “poses” illustrated what had happened to me on that particular day. Blogs, unfortunately, are like slide shows, you can only view them thanks to technology. As an member of an older generation I prefer photo books, news papers and still print out a lot of things I should simply read on my computer screen. The editing of the book is almost completed and I cannot wait to see the resulting “hard copy” . More about this later….

New Shows For This Summer

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I took a long break for my daughter’s Wedding and preparing for the following two Group Shows:

Fenimore Gallery at Proctors, 432 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 – Contact # (518)482-8658.
This is a celebration of the founding of Upstate 88 Artist group, 20 years ago. The show opened on July 3rd and will run until July 31st, 2008. There will be a reception on Friday, July 18, from 5-9pm.

Five of my “Queens” are on display.

The second show is the National Juried Show in Cooperstown, NY:

The Show runs from July 19 to August 22, 2008. It is free and open to the public.

You will find my “Pear and Coneflowers I and II” framed together. Interesting to see them like that.

More later….

New Show: “All About Food”, Hudson, NY

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

The past few weeks have been taken up by family and trips. No major new work to show at this time but I have the following announcement to share:

“ALL ABOUT FOOD” is a small one person show that openend on April 17 at the Deborah Davis Gallery, 510 Warren Street in Hudson. It will run to May 12th. There is no opening reception. The Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday, 11-5pm or by appointment.

In March I was also part of a group show entitled “Food and Nudes” at the Mark Gruber Gallery in New Paltz, NY. It was just beautiful. The show closed at the beginning of April.

The Holidays Are Over!

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

It is back to work in my studio. The frigid weather does not make it easy as it is located in a barn and at times it feels frivolous to heat my whole space just for painting. But at this point it would be too difficult to move all my equipment into the house and I am just too messy a painter.

This week, I started 3 paintings: The first is about “Sweets”….ice cream cones, lollipops, chocolate and whipped cream. I guess the holidays left an imprint of these things in my brain!! The second is about pears and a jester; a more challenging undertaking but fun to develop. Then each day, before closing up, I use the paints left on my palette on a third painting: a row of pears. Here is this work in progress:

Row of Six Pears, oil on canvas 10″x20″ – in progress…

Happy Holidays

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I am taking a break and catching up with family and friends. It is always interesting to do so after a show and sort of “re-group”. Trips to New York City, a vacation in the South and now the beautiful early snow Upstate New York; wonderful for the soul. I will resume my blog after the holidays.

Best wishes to all.
